Websites you like to visit.

July 15, 2008

Since I spend as much time as I possibly can online I have several websites I view daily. Some of them aren’t exactly…work appropriate so I won’t include those (email me if you want links) but I still came up with a good list. What I attempted to do was include sites everyone may not know about. For example, I go to ESPN.com multiple times a day, but that’s probably the most visited sports site so I won’t include it. Catch my drift? Here is my list:

  1. HuluThey Say: ” Hulu’s mission is to help people find and enjoy the world’s premium video content when, where and how they want it. Hulu is an online video service that offers hit TV shows, movies and clips at Hulu.com and other online destination sites — all for free, anytime in the U.S. Hulu brings together a large selection of videos from more than 50 content providers, including FOX, NBC Universal, MGM, Sony Pictures Television, Warner Bros. and more. Users can watch current primetime TV such as The Simpsons and The Office the morning after they air, classics like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Married…with Children, movies like The Usual Suspects and The Big Lebowski, and clips from Saturday Night Live and other popular TV shows and movies.” I Say: Entire movies and TV shows for free? Sign me up. They do show commercials, but the maximum length of a break is 30 seconds, though most are only 15 seconds. The main reason I go here is because they have the entire series Arrested Development available to watch.
  2. Original Signal -They Say: “Original Signal consists of two parts, the Single Page Aggregator pages and The frontpage(s). The SPA pages are made for fast headline scanning on subjects like Web 2.0, Technology and Internet. On the Web 2.0 signal, our visitors filter out the most popular articles which appear on this frontpage. So, are you fed up with your stressed out RSS-reader? This is the place…” I Say: This is the perfect place to start your day. You can browse tons of websites with lots of different content in about five minutes. Anything from science news to entertainment they have it all. Pages I especially enjoy reading are gadgets, web 2.0, and marketing.
  3. TrailerAddictThey Say: TrailerAddict was created for those who understand what it means to be a fan of movie trailers. Getting to the theater early on purpose, we are bound by the knowledge that trailers are (at times) better than the films they represent. TrailerAddict has been built not for those who like a good trailer now and then, but those who understand that the need to watch trailers is a state of mind. In short – you’re an addict.” I Say: This site is wonderful for me since I will watch the same movie trailers repeatedly if they are entertaining enough. Paired with Coming Soon I can damn near see an entire movie before it comes out.
  4. National Public Radio – They Say: ” NPR (National Public Radio) is an internationally acclaimed producer and distributor of noncommercial news, talk, and entertainment programming. A privately supported, not-for-profit membership organization, NPR serves a growing audience of 26 million Americans each week in partnership with more than 860 independently operated, noncommercial public radio stations. Each NPR Member Station serves local listeners with a distinctive combination of national and local programming. With original online content and audio streaming, NPR.org offers hourly newscasts, special features and ten years of archived audio and information. ” I Say: NPR.org allows me to listen to my favorite news programs while I am doing something else online simultaneously. Stories they do are often more in depth than what you would get even on the 24 hour news networks. If you like music make sure to check out their music page. I also frequently click through to listen to On The Media. If you like what you see at npr.org you should also look at pri.org.
  5. Modern DrunkardThey Say: Are you guys for real? Yes. While there is some satire involved, we believe to the very core of our souls every word we write. Who are you? We are a group of functional alcoholics based primarily in Denver, CO. Included in our ranks are published novelists, filmmakers, English gentlemen, barflies, punk rock musicians, comedians, outright dastards and admitted boozeheads. What are your goals? To return drinking to the glorious Rat Pack/Jackie Gleason Era. How do we plan to pull it off? First we unite the International Drunkard Tribe. Then we crush our enemies. Then we take over. Then we celebrate with a never-ending series of victory keggers and self-congratulatory cocktail parties.” I Say: A magazine that speaks to my sense of humor, plus it doesn’t hurt that they published this list of things I want to accomplish before I die.

So other than this one, List 5 websites you like to visit.

  1. Amanda Moore Says:

    1. icanhascheezburger.com – New LOLcats posted daily; need I say more?

    2. PerezHilton.com – I love Perez Hilton because he says everything everyone else is thinking about celebrities. One time he told Victoria Beckham to her face that she looked like an alien with big boobs. It’s true.

    3. Mallet Wiki – I mostly just look at the “recent changes” page to see what application everyone is talking about or to see what everyone is talking about in general. I like to be in the know about things.

    4. MySpace – Uh, duh. All of my friends back in VA use MySpace…well, most of them anyway. Not many use Facebook, so that’s how we keep in touch.

    5. Facebook – most of my friends in Mallet and at UA use Facebook. I also have found old elementary and middle school friends on Facebook from back when I used to live here (Tuscaloosa) in middle school. I’ve found that Facebook is more of a Southern thing. MySpace is bigger up in the NOVA area of VA. Facebook, not so much.

  2. 1. http://www.ashleyjasmanphotography.smugmug.com – Because I love looking at my stats and seeing how many hits I get each day. I also like to see which photographs and which galleries are getting the most hits. It’s not much, but to me it’s everything!

    2. http://www.mybabychat.com – Seriously, after a year of trying to get pregnant, women do some crazy a$$ stuff. I’m one of those women. When I’m on fertility medicine, and all 5′1″, 110 lbs of me wants to throw down and tear the check-out girl at Publix’s head off – it makes me feel better to know a. I’m not alone, and b. I’m not the craziest.

    3. Yahoo – I have to check my email every hour or so.

    4. http://www.myspace.com – Although I’m not nearly as addicted to it as I used to be. Another site which confirms my sanity versus others’.

    5. http://www.aju.edu – It’s my day job. I’m a Marketing Director, Monday – Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, and I do my photography when I can. But during those 40 hours a week, I’m constantly on our site trying to come up with better marketing agendas.

  3. Jamie Says:

    1. Facebook and myspace. I am now addicted to this crap and have to check it frequently. It takes up way to much of my time but it’s a great way to keep in contact and keep friends in the loop of my life.

    2. Friend’s blogs, this one and onewandering.

    3. Postsecret.com Very interesting site where you send in your secret via postcard and they post it. Completely anonymous and completely voyeuristic.

    4. Snopes to check out all the stupid e-mails I get sent to see which ones are full of s$%t (most of them) and which ones are actually for real.

    5. Pandora – great way to find new artists based on something you already like. Good way to have music on at work when I have time to get in front of the computer.

  4. Brian Eldridge Says:

    My favorite websites…

1.) KentuckySportsReport.com — I actually work for this one, which is why it’s my favorite. I get paid for the content I provide. But being a big University of Kentucky football and basketball fan, I’d be there whether I’m getting paid or not.

2.) Netflix — I love movies, definitely my guilty pleasure. I’ll watch movies before I eat. So this is another thing that I greatly enjoy. They send me my movies and I watch them and send them back. Plus I can read the movie reviews by users which often make more sense than the professional reviews.

3.) Yahoo! 360 — This is a not so popular social-network, ala Myspace, Facebook, etc… I started on there in 2005. I’ve met some wonderful people there. I really have a good time clowning with them, even though there are so many bugs that don’t allow us to do everything that we could do previously. The main reason I love it so much is just the people that I’ve met there.

4.) My Yahoo! — This is where I read all my news. I’ve got a ton of RSS feeds there (including this one). I scan through all the relevent news to me and read whatever I’m interested in. Without this little page online, I’d have little knowledge of celebrity gossip, consumer technology, politics, and the odd news of the day! LOL

5.) Gmail — This is my spot. Yeah, its cliche’, but to be able to keep all my emails (that I actually want) is important for me. I get so much email for recruits I have to contact and people asking about my book. It’s just nice to not have to worry about the inbox exploding.

  5. onewandering Says:

    1. iGoogle – a quick look at the weather, my gmail inbox, my Google Calendar, Calvin & Hobbes comic, and National Geographic daily photo all in one spot? Great! A separate tab so I can keep track of the RSS feeds on all of the blogs I read? Brilliant.

    2. Blogs – http://onewandering.wordpress.com, http://thepioneerwoman.com, http://www.dooce.com, http://www.wordperv.com, http://resplendentimageration.blogspot.com... these and more are great reads. Check out my blog roll on One Wandering.

    3. http://www.postsecret.com – a selection of anonymous postcard secrets.

    4. http://www.m-w.com – Merriam Webster’s online dictionary and thesaurus, a great online reference tool for writers! I open this site up at least five times a day, more when I’m writing a post.

    5. http://www.etsy.com – Handmade goods sold online in this marketplace. You don’t need an account to browse, but a free account lets you set up Favorites, and a Seller Account lets you sell your own handmade goods!

  6. billy Says:

    1. BamaOnLine.com – Good inside source on Alabama sports, mainly football and recruiting. I cannot think of more than a few occassions since the site started around 1996/1997 that I have visited it on a daily basis. It helps me get my fix.

    2. Hulu – It’s relatively free and painless. It’s nice to have another source to watch TV and movies after the fact.

    3. perezhilton.com – Sorry but I like train wrecks and this helps me get my fix.

    4. Reg’s Coffe House – It helps me keep up to date on new music and he’s been pretty on in regards to new talent in the past. Unfortunately nothing has been updated in a while.

    5. http://www.scgis-al.com – County website that allows you to look up property by subdivision and lot and see how much people paid for their homes. It’s pretty fun, especially if your in the market to buy a home.

  7. Jill Says:

I like this one. These are the five I check just about every day.

    1. Perezhilton.com – Because celebrity gossip is my weakness.

    2. Gmail.com – Because their email is awesome, and google will take over the world one day.

    3. ABCnews.com – Because I love Diane Sawyer, Robin Roberts, and especially Chris Cuomo. They keep me updated.

    4. ApartmentTherapy.com – Because I’m an architecture nerd and I love modern design. Even better if they can give you ideas for modern design in small spaces and on the cheap.

    5. Facebook.com – Because everybody’s doing it.

  8. Tiffany Mueller Says:

  9. Laura Says:

    1) i’ll lump myspace and facebook into the same number cause let’s face it. . they are pretty much the same sites now. They keep ripping each other off.

    2) all my street racing and minitrucking forums. So you have Memphisofftopic.com, memphisracingscene.com, alabamaracingscene.net, and streetsourcemagazine.com.

3)gmail of course cause I have too check all the drama that is going on on the Mallet list and that leads me to the wiki for more mallet stuff
